Thirty three finalists have made it through to the final stages and the winners of the 11 categories will be announced at a glittering Awards Ceremony and Dinner on 25th September at the Press & Journal Arena at the AECC. Principal sponsors of the event this year is RGU’s Aberdeen Business School, with supporting sponsor Aberdeen Harbour Board. Chamber Chief Executive Geoff Runcie said the panels of expert judges which were set up for each category faced an extremely difficult task before reaching their final decisions. The judges also identified three entries which did not make the finalists list but which deserved special commendations. “We had a very strong field of nominations this year and I was particularly pleased to see a lot of companies which are new to the event putting forward a submission for the first time. Apart from widening out the level of competition, it is a very good indication of the confidence and strength of the North-east business community. “This is all helping to build up to an absolutely fantastic night on the 25th.” John Lewis has reached the finals in three categories while newcomer, Arbuthnott Wood Pellets has been in business for less than a year but has made a real impact in the field of renewables. NORTHERN STAR GETS THE X FACTOR
More recently her television credits have included co-presenting Comic Relief for the BBC and hosting the Royal Variety Performance, Britain Sings Christmas and Countdown to Midnight with Take That. She also recently hosted the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour. "We are absolutely delighted that Kate has agreed to host this year's awards," said Chamber Chief Executive Geoff Runcie. "We wanted to bring in someone who is dynamic and who will add something a little bit special to reflect just how glamorous this event has become. "The Northern Star Business Awards is the Chamber's flagship event and the ceremony on September 25 will be the biggest and most spectacular in its five-year history. Having a presenter who is as high profile as Kate join us on the evening shows how much Northern Star has grown in stature and significance. "We have had some excellent nominations this year and a new category for Woman of the Year, launched by the Engage! Businesswomen's Network, which has attracted a huge amount of interest. It recognises the contribution which women have made to the North-east business community and we had some outstanding contenders." Judging of all the categories by a team of independent judges is now taking place and the shortlist of finalists – three per category – will be announced within the next few weeks. This size and scale of this year's event means that the Awards Ceremony has moved to the Press & Journal Arena at the AECC in order to accommodate the 1000 guests who will attend. More than 750 people attended last year’s event and there was a waiting list of 150 which prompted the move to the bigger venue. Tables are selling fast and companies and individuals who have not yet confirmed their booking are urged to secure their place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. A fantastic's evening of entertainment has been planned for the evening. The format is traditionally kept a secret until awards night, but organisers are promising that the line-up won’t disappoint.
